Zone 1 Joint Governor's Address Highlights District Updates and Welcomes New Members

October 19, 2024 | Luxe Hotel, Cagayan de Oro City – The Zone 1 Joint Governor's Address, hosted by the Zone 1 Council of Presidents, was held at Luxe Hotel on October 19, 2024, with Rotarians gathering to celebrate camaraderie and hear the latest updates from District 3870.

The Rotary Club of Cagayan de Oro Premier played an integral role in the event, manning the registration tables and leading the Finance Committee, chaired by President Nielgem Beja, who also serves as Treasurer for the Zone 1 Council. The event was well-attended, with representatives from various Rotary clubs in the city.

One of the key highlights of the evening was the induction of seven new Rotarians from different clubs in Cagayan de Oro. Among the inductees was Heldegonde Esmail, the latest member of the Rotary Club of Cagayan de Oro Premier. Although her sponsor, Immediate Past President Arrissa Navarro, was unable to attend due to prior commitments, Past Assistant Governor Mae Allyn Linaac stood in her place to represent the sponsor during the ceremony. Heldegonde Esmail was there to represent herself.

District Rotary Foundation Chair Manuel Along charged the new members, emphasizing the responsibilities and expectations of Rotary membership. The formal oath was then administered by District 3870 Governor Hubert Quiblat, officially welcoming the new Rotarians into the fold.

Following the induction, District Governor Hubert Quiblat delivered a comprehensive update on the state of the District. His report covered important topics such as membership growth, My Rotary engagement, and contributions to the Rotary Foundation. A significant announcement was the transfer of the Rotary Club of Northern Bukidnon from Zone 4 to Zone 1. Governor Hubert explained that Manolo Fortich, where the club is based, is geographically closer to Cagayan de Oro than to other cities in Bukidnon, making the move more practical for monitoring by the Assistant Governor. The decision was well-received by the district's clubs.

In a heartwarming moment, the Assistant Governors of Zone 1 performed a tribute to District Governor Hubert, singing "I Can Do Magic" by America, which resonated with this year's Rotary theme, The Magic of Rotary. The evening culminated in a lively dance number by the Council of Presidents, adding a festive touch to the event.

The Governor's Address was a celebration of service, leadership, and fellowship, further solidifying the unity and commitment of Rotary members as they continue their mission of Service Above Self. The event concluded on a high note, leaving attendees energized for the Rotary year ahead.#
