Rotary Club of Cagayan de Oro Premier Plants Mangroves to Protect the Environment
Tubajon Aquamarine Park, Laguindingan—September 21, 2024
In line with Rotary International’s latest area of focus, "Protecting the Environment," the Rotary Club of Cagayan de Oro Premier successfully conducted a mangrove planting project at Tubajon Aquamarine Park in Laguindingan, Misamis Oriental. The project, held on September 21, 2024, was spearheaded by Rotarian Reese Madridano and attended by several members of the club who eagerly took part in this environmental initiative.
Rotarians in attendance included Reese Madridano, Sarah Jane Behiga, Jenalyn Morales, Rowena and Michael Adame, Secretary Krisha June Burgos, and Past Assistant Governor (PAG) Mae Allyn Linaac. The group convened at 7/11 Alubijid as early as 5:45 AM, ready to take on the day’s mission of making a tangible impact in the fight against environmental degradation.
Once at Tubajon Aquamarine Park, the Rotarians worked together to plant hundreds of mangrove seedlings, contributing to the restoration of the local mangrove ecosystem. The project not only aligns with Rotary's environmental focus but also supports the coastal communities in Laguindingan by enhancing their natural barriers against storms and coastal erosion.
After the project, the participants were treated to a well-deserved and hearty breakfast of saang (spider conch), courtesy of PAG Mae Allyn Linaac, further cementing the camaraderie and fellowship among the Rotarians.
This initiative marks another milestone for the Rotary Club of Cagayan de Oro Premier, reinforcing its commitment to service above self and its proactive role in environmental preservation.
The success of the project highlights the importance of collective action in addressing global challenges, and the club looks forward to more endeavors that protect and nurture the planet for future generations.#
