Every learner has strengths worth celebrating. That belief is at the heart of PROJECT POSSIBLE: A Strengths and Talents Showcase for Learners with Special Needs, a new service initiative of the Rotary Club of Cagayan de Oro Premier that promotes inclusion by celebrating the talents, creativity, and potential of learners with special needs through interactive workshops, mentorship, and community engagement.
Anchored on Rotary International's Area of Focus on Supporting Education, Project POSSIBLE was developed to create meaningful opportunities for learners with special needs to express themselves, discover new skills, build confidence, and showcase their unique strengths. Rather than focusing on limitations, the project highlights what each learner is capable of achieving when given encouragement, support, and the opportunity to shine.
Implemented in partnership with East City Central School, Project POSSIBLE brought together Rotarians, SPED teachers, parents, volunteers, sponsors, and community partners in a shared mission of promoting inclusion and empowering learners through meaningful experiences.
The project featured two workshop sessions held on June 20 and June 26, 2026, where participants explored their interests through three engaging workshop tracks.

In the Arts and Crafts workshop, learners expressed their creativity through sensory hand painting and created clay handprint keepsakes as lasting reminders of their participation. The Food Preparation workshop introduced learners to simple kitchen skills through sandwich making and cupcake decorating, encouraging independence, creativity, and teamwork. Meanwhile, the Music and Rhythm workshop, divided into singing and dancing groups, helped learners build confidence and prepare for their culminating performances.
Beyond teaching new skills, Project POSSIBLE was about building relationships. Rotarians worked side by side with SPED teachers, parents, and volunteers to mentor, encourage, and celebrate every learner, creating a safe and supportive environment where each participant felt seen, valued, and empowered.
Project Chair Maria Teresa Sarraga-Malawani said the initiative was inspired by a simple but powerful belief—that communities become stronger when they recognize the strengths of every learner.
"Project POSSIBLE is our invitation to the community to see the abilities and celebrate the possibilities. Every learner has gifts worth discovering, talents worth nurturing, and dreams worth supporting. We hope this project inspires more people to look beyond limitations and recognize the incredible potential within every learner. This is the first of what we hope will become many opportunities to celebrate inclusion and empower learners through meaningful experiences."
The project will culminate during Taripato, the kick-off initiative of District Governor-Elect Maureen Cacabelos, to be conducted in partnership with the Rotary Club of Cagayan de Oro. During the showcase, Project POSSIBLE participants will proudly present their artworks, songs, and dance performances before their families, teachers, Rotarians, project partners, and members of the community. The event will serve as a celebration of courage, creativity, perseverance, and the power of an inclusive community.
The Rotary Club of Cagayan de Oro Premier extends its heartfelt gratitude to East City Central School, its dedicated SPED teachers, parent volunteers, and generous project sponsors—Del Monte Philippines, SM Downtown Premier, New Leaf Bread, and Technomart—for helping transform this vision into reality. Their partnership demonstrates how collaboration between schools, businesses, and civic organizations can create meaningful opportunities for learners with special needs.
Through Project POSSIBLE, the Rotary Club of Cagayan de Oro Premier reaffirms its commitment to Service Above Self by creating opportunities where every learner can discover their strengths, build confidence, and share their talents with their families, their schools, and their community.
Because when we choose to see the abilities and celebrate the possibilities, everyone grows stronger together.#
