Rotary Club of Cagayan de Oro Premier Celebrates 10th Induction and Turn-over Ceremonies with Vibrant Safari Theme
Cagayan de Oro, Philippines – The Rotary Club of Cagayan de Oro Premier marked a significant milestone with its 10th Induction and Turn-over Ceremonies held on July 18, 2024, at the Palladium Ballroom of Mallberry Suites Business Hotel. Themed "Safari," the event saw attendees dressed in vibrant animal print and safari-inspired attire, transforming the venue into a colorful, jungle-like celebration.
The evening kicked off with an energetic dance number, a signature of the outgoing President, Arrissa, who uniquely managed to convince the members to participate in dancing. This tradition has become a source of humor among the members, jokingly suggesting the formation of a dance troupe.
The ceremony included the induction of four new members: Kara Louise Evangelista, Jenalyn Morales, and Rowena and Michael Adame. The new inductees were charged by Assistant Governor Lilibeth Layagon and officially inducted into the club by District Governor Hubert Quiblat. The new members shared their passions at the event, with Kara, a food and beverage operations manager, setting up a delightful coffee bar, and accomplished musician Jenalyn performing with her renowned band, Jenzpeak.
Following the induction, attendees enjoyed a sumptuous dinner, which was followed by an awards presentation. An unprecedented nine Rotarians were recognized for perfect attendance. Kaye Denise Navarro and Edgar Requilme were honored as Most Outstanding New Rotarians, affectionately dubbed the "Rookie of the Year" award by the club. The title of Most Outstanding Rotarian saw a tie between District 3870 Outstanding Secretary Mae Grace Siao and Past Assistant Governor Mae Allyn Linaac. The members humorously suggested that PAG Mae Allyn, with her third win, should have a place in a hall of fame.
The installation of new officers was conducted by Immediate Past District Governor Gilda Go and District Governor Hubert Quiblat. President Arrissa then delivered her valedictory address, sharing a charming anecdote about her youngest daughter writing her speech, which was finished just in time and perfectly captured her sentiments. She then ceremoniously handed over the gavel to incoming President Nielgem Beja. The two exchanged pins, symbolizing the transition of leadership.
In a poignant moment, the council of past presidents presented President Arrissa with a leadership award. This gesture was deeply symbolic, representing the continuity of excellence and the shared legacy of leadership within the club. It highlighted the respect and admiration of her peers for her contributions and underscored the collective wisdom and experience guiding the club's future.
In her acceptance speech, President Nielgem Beja recounted her journey to joining Rotary, sharing her lifelong passion for volunteer work. She mentioned how she had previously assisted a former employer with Rotary projects, which piqued her interest in joining. Without knowing anyone closely enough to ask for an invitation, she took the initiative to apply on the Rotary website and was serendipitously placed with the very club she had assisted years ago.
The evening's keynote speaker, Past District Governor John Mark Sarraga, was introduced by his daughter, creating a heartwarming moment. He reminisced about the club's growth from its inception and praised the power of Rotary connections and mentoring, particularly highlighting President Nielgem's rise through the ranks.
District Governor Hubert Quiblat followed with a message of encouragement to the club, after which Past Assistant Governor Mae Allyn Linaac delivered the closing remarks. The event concluded with the adjournment by the new President Nielgem Beja.
The program was hosted by Maricel Seno, with Mikaela Briones as co-host, who humorously claimed to be "under training" from PP Macel. Their banter kept the audience laughing, even when their jokes missed the mark. Some punchlines soared like eagles, while others, well, landed with a thud—much like a giraffe on roller skates—but they all brought hearty laughs and added to the evening's fun.
The evening was family-friendly, with many Rotarians bringing their young children. President Nielgem's son, Yuri, particularly enjoyed the safari-themed animals on display, adding to the event's lively and inclusive atmosphere.
The Rotary Club of Cagayan de Oro Premier continues to thrive, exemplifying the spirit of "Service Above Self" through its vibrant community and dedicated members.
