The Rotary Club of Cagayan de Oro Premier strengthened its continuing partnership with Barangay Bonbon by donating a commercial freezer on July 16, 2026, to support the barangay's community-based livelihood and food processing program. The project advances Rotary's Area of Focus on Economic and Community Development while also contributing to Maternal and Child Health by helping mothers earn sustainable incomes to better support their families.
The donated commercial freezer will serve 25 unemployed mothers from the barangay's local association, enabling them to safely store and sell processed food products as part of a community livelihood initiative. The equipment provides an essential component for expanding the program's operations and creating long-term income opportunities for participating families.
The project builds on a partnership established several years ago when the Rotary Club of Cagayan de Oro Premier conducted a skills training seminar for the same community. During that project, the club brought in resource persons to teach participants how to prepare and market puso, the traditional rice delicacy wrapped in woven coconut leaves. The latest donation continues Rotary's commitment to helping the community move from skills development to sustainable livelihood.
Barangay Bonbon formally requested assistance for the project and expressed its gratitude to the Rotary Club of Cagayan de Oro Premier for its continued support. The turnover ceremony was attended by the Barangay Bonbon Council led by Barangay Captain Lelit Baal Molina. Project Chair Rotarian Mike Adame, who also serves as a Barangay Kagawad, was unable to attend as he was out of the country.
Representing the Rotary Club of Cagayan de Oro Premier were President Mae Grace Siao, Vice President and President-Elect Krisha Burgos, and Director Rose Lumacang, who served as Assistant Project Chair. They were joined by prospective members Suhaira Magomnang and Prescilla Joy Fortaleza-Alwag.
By building on an existing partnership and responding to the community's evolving needs, the project demonstrates how Rotary's Areas of Focus can create lasting impact through practical, community-led solutions that strengthen both livelihoods and families.#
