Barangay Health Worker Vision Screening Training Empowers Local Communities




 

Manolo Fortich, August 24, 2024 — In observance of Sight Saving Month, the Rotary Club of Cagayan de Oro Premier, in partnership with the Ophthalmology Department of Northern Mindanao Medical Center and Del Monte Philippines, Inc., successfully conducted a Vision Screening Training for Barangay Health Workers (BHWs). Held on August 24, 2024, the training was aimed at empowering BHWs to perform vision screenings within their communities and to help in the early detection of preventable blindness.





The event saw the participation of 29 BHWs from various barangays across Manolo Fortich. The training was co-chaired by Past President Dr. Dino Camonias and Rotarian Dr. Mayjane Joan Tumulak. Dr. Ben Aguilar served as the lead facilitator, with additional support from participating doctors Dr. Paul Hipona, Dr. Ron Moreno, Dr. Shasta Tiro, Dr. Alih Llesis, and Dr. Anthea Burdeos, who provided valuable insights and practical knowledge.


The event logistics were managed efficiently, with PAG Mae Allyn Linaac and Rotarian Ailene Molleno overseeing the food and venue arrangements. Pres. Nielgem Beja and Sec. Krisha June Burgos handled the registration process, ensuring a smooth and organized flow of the day's activities.


Rotarians who were present included Pres. Nielgem Beja, Sec. Krisha June Burgos, PAG Mae Allyn Linaac, Rtn. Ailene Molleno, PP Dino Camonias, Rtn. Mayjane Joan Tumulak, and Dir. Rosalie Lumacang. Their dedication to the project underscores the Rotary Club's commitment to enhancing community health and well-being.


The successful completion of this training represents a significant step towards improving vision care in local communities and highlights the Rotary Club's ongoing efforts to support public health initiatives.#
