The Lion King Blocked Screening

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY—The Rotary Club of Cagayan de Oro Premier hosted a special blocked screening of the Lion King at Limketkai Cinemas, Cinemas 4 on Friday, 19 July 2019. Tickets were sold at ₱350 with a complimentary snack and drink. All proceeds from the showing will go to funding the club’s projects for the Rotary year.

The highly-anticipated remake of the Walt Disney classic captures the story of young Simba who, tricked by a treacherous uncle into thinking he caused his father's death, flees into exile in despair. Years later, a chance encounter with his childhood friend, Nala, forces the young king—now an adult—to decide his fate. He enlists the help of newfound allies, Timone and Pumbaa, to face his greatest enemy. The ragtag bunch band together to stand against the villainous Scar and to reclaim the Pride Lands.

Though the primary objective of the project was to raise funds for their various programs and initiatives, the organizers had another motive for screening the blockbuster. “We’re trying to show everyone—especially the young people out there—that you can walk the path to greatness, even if you do stumble along the way,” said RC CDO Premier President, Maria Teresa Sarraga.

“Our goal is to inspire everyone to band together, engage with the world, and make a difference,” said project chair Emma Chris Louise Along.

The film was screened in association with Del Monte Philippines, Inc., Mr. Donut, Star Ads, Natidome Corp., DML Trucking, LYL Development Corporation, Technomart, DMPI Employees Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Cooperative, the Pink Box by Tring Sarraga, and Marvilla Beach Resort.
