Grand Fiesta Trivia

The Rotary Club of Cagayan de Oro Premier reached out this Fiesta season to raise awareness, funds and support to end polio – a vaccine preventable disease that still threatens children in parts of the world today.

RC CDO Premier invited the City of Golden Friendship to Grand Fiesta Trivia, a quiz show for a cause, on Friday, 25 August 2017 at P.O.P.S. All-Filipino Eatery. Participants were asked to register in teams of 3 to 10 and pay an admission fee of ₱300.00 per person to play. The competition began at 7:30 PM and consisted of 4 rounds with 3 categories per round. Each category consisted of 7 questions. Trivia questions ranged from general information, history, geography, sports, science, music, pop culture, etc. A total of 10 teams registered for the trivia challenge. Top teams were awarded over ₱50,000.00 in prizes.

Grand Fiesta Trivia was made possible by Epson, Dahilayan Adventure Park, 4DaBoys, Echo Store, The Pink Box, Nailandia SM CDO Downtown Premier, Avon, Ribs and Bibs, and Coco Bay. Part of the proceeds from the event will be donated to Rotary International for the benefit of the PolioPlus campaign.

Eradicating polio worldwide is Rotary's top philanthropic goal. Since Rotary and its partners launched the Global Polio Eradication Initiative nearly 30 years ago, the incidence of polio has plummeted by more than 99.9 percent, from about 350,000 cases a year to just 37 cases in 2016. To sustain this progress, and protect all children from polio, Rotary has committed to raising US$50 million per year over the next three years in support of global polio eradication efforts. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation will match Rotary’s commitment 2:1. Without full funding and political commitment, this paralyzing disease could return to previously polio-free countries, putting children everywhere at risk.

Rotary brings together a global network of volunteer leaders dedicated to tackling the world’s most pressing humanitarian challenges. Rotary connects 1.2 million members of more than 35,000 Rotary clubs in over 200 countries and geographical areas. Their work improves lives at both the local and international levels, from helping families in need in their own communities to working toward a polio-free world.
